My mission is not to please everybody

I tried googling my pen name and I was surprised when I read my review about Journey’s concert. It was reposted on Arnel Pineda’s website. What surprised me were the responses it got from the  fans of  Pineda and Journey. They called me irresponsible and amateur writer, that I didn’t know what I wrote, and that I really need to have Journey 101 and Journalism 101.

Yesterday, bananafish asked me about my reaction to negative comments about my write ups. I told her, it’s fine and those things don’t really matter but they serve as challenge to improve my writing. It’s part of the learning process.

According to the followers of Pineda and Journey, my review was terrible and it lacked credibility because it didn’t state the facts and that I’m too young to write something about a band that has been around for more than three decades now. There were about 60 plus negative comments about the review.

My reaction:

Well, I can’t rewrite the whole review and if I were given another chance to rewrite it, most probably the review would only be just the same as the original one. The review was the reflection of my experience at the concert.

    Hi Nickie,

Arnel Pineda never made comments on his website about your review that I could find. I think you were confused by seeing comments from a poster/website member named “UHL” whose avatar is a pic of Arnel. That poster/website member is NOT Arnel. Website members at Arnel’s site can use any picture they want for their avatars and many use pics of Arnel alone, or Arnel with themselves as many fans have met him personally.

Arnel almost never has time to post in his forum and on the extremely rare times that he does, he posts under his own name “arnel_pineda”, not an alias. Arnel’s avatar has a picture of himself, his wife, and his baby son. You can verify this by clicking onto the “Members” page of his site. When you click onto that page, Arnel’s avatar is featured at the top.

Arnel has never commented in his forum on any concert review that he has ever received so far, good or bad. Hope this clears up any confusion that Arnel had any negative response to your review. Take care.

    Penisparker,

Whatever it was–whether Carmel or Dianne made a comment on your post or not, the fact that you wrote a review with no intention to please everyone is something that you have to do as a writer. After all, a review does not require that you solicit opinions from different people. If they don’t like what you said, carebares, it’s your opinion, dba? :) Unless it was something libelous and I think it wasn’t.
